KILL THE BILL

The Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill is legislation that endangers the rights and safety of us all. It is an unnecessary new level of control. The complete rejection of the bill was the ONLY just outcome, and that did not happen. The police have, for decades, abused the powers that they already have and giving them more power WILL NOT make us safer.

Not only does the Bill encourage and legitimise police brutality against the Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller communities (criminalising their way of life) but it also gives police the power to criminalise any protester who is ‘noisy’ or ‘disruptive’. Not only does the Bill expand stop and search powers, which already terrorise young black people disproportionately, but it also will silence the loved ones of those whose lives have been taken by the police.

PROTESTS ARE MEANT TO DISRUPT.

We have the right to peacefully protest when the police and the governing powers ignore the public voice. Non-violent protest is a democratic right.

The government should PROTECT our rights, not take them away.

The Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill is legislation that endangers the rights and safety of us all.
